Why León?

León's origins go back to the times when the Romans dominated Hispania

Established as a military camp for the Legio VI Victrix around 29 BC, it solidified its role as a strategic city with the permanent settlement of the Legio VII Gemina in 74 AD.

Over the centuries, León rose to prominence as the capital of the kingdom in the Middle Ages, becoming a key stop on the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela. Today, it stands as a vibrant city deeply connected to its past while offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. The stunning landscapes of the region include the Picos de Europa National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Las Médulas, and the winter resort of San Isidro. León's cultural and recreational offerings are only matched by the exceptional quality and variety of its gastronomy.

Bars

My favorite bars in León

Taberna "Los Cazurros"

"Los Cazurros" is a simple restaurant in the Barrio Húmedo that serves authentic local dishes that are top quality.

Address

Plaza San Martin, 5

What I like about it

The best 'patatas bravas' with a choice of sauce. Delicious!

Taberna "Oriente Medio"

Taberna "Oriente Medio" emerges as an iconic local bar where tradition meets taste. With an appealing interior terrace perfect for savoring traditional dishes.

Address

Calle de Juan de Arfe, 8

What I like about it

Their signature tapa 'chorizo al infierno'. It's a must!

Bar "Flechazo"

A family-owned bar, one of the oldest in the Barrio Húmedo, the only bar in the entire Barrio Húmedo specialized in just one tapa.

Address

Calle Platerias

What I like about it

You have to try their homemade fries with the option of spicy or mild. It's their only tapa and it's just delicious!
